Four Killed and Others Injured in Gas Leak Explosion in Kermanshah
Four people were killed and 14 injured in a gas explosion caused by a leak in Kermanshah, western Iran, destroying one home and damaging neighboring buildings.
Four people were killed and 14 others injured early Tuesday morning due to an explosion caused by a gas leak in a house in the Jafarabad district of Kermanshah city in western Iran; this led to the complete destruction of one house and damage to several adjacent residential buildings.
The Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) quoted Mehdi Fattahian, Director General of the Crisis Management Department in Kermanshah Province, as saying that the explosion occurred after an excavator belonging to a service agency collided with a gas pipe during excavation work for a sewage pipeline project; which caused the gas leak and subsequent explosion.
Fattahian added that fire, rescue, ambulance, and Red Crescent teams rushed to the scene of the incident, while search and debris removal operations continued.
Preliminary assessments showed the complete destruction of one residential unit and damage to several other houses.
The official clarified that ten of the injured were transported to hospitals, where one later died from his injuries, while the bodies of three other people, including a woman, were recovered from under the rubble, raising the death toll to four.
He noted that a number of the injured received treatment and left, while others remained under medical care.
For its part, the Kermanshah Province Gas Company confirmed that the explosion was caused by the excavator colliding with the gas network, stating that its teams stopped the gas flow in the affected line and took the necessary measures to control the leak and prevent the incident from escalating.
The company announced that the gas supply to the affected area would remain cut off until the network inspection is completed, faults are repaired, and the risk of leakage is eliminated, with service resuming after safety is guaranteed; relevant authorities continue to assess damages and verify the safety of neighboring buildings.
