Iran Condemns US Airstrikes as Violation of Memorandum of Understanding
Iran denounced recent US airstrikes as a clear breach of the first clause of the memorandum of understanding with the United States.

Tehran condemned the US airstrikes carried out yesterday, labeling them a violation of the first clause of the memorandum of understanding with Washington. The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday expressing strong condemnation of the attacks.
The statement said, "We strongly condemn the airstrikes launched by the terrorist US military on Friday evening against several sites along Iran's southern coasts. These brutal attacks targeted Iranian coastal monitoring facilities, constituting a clear violation of paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter, as well as an explicit breach of the first clause of the memorandum of understanding on ending the imposed war."
It further added, "At the same time, the Zionist apartheid regime, in coordination with the United States, also attacked Lebanon, in clear violation of the first clause of the memorandum of understanding on ending the war."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed that "The Islamic Republic of Iran has an inherent right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter," emphasizing that "Iran will vigorously defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests."
The statement clarified that "The defensive strikes carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran's armed forces against targets associated with the invading US forces were based on this principle."
It also stated that "The responsibility for the consequences of this situation lies with the aggressive and treaty-violating US regime, as well as with parties that collude in any way in the US's aggressive actions against Iran."
In this regard, the ministry stressed "the necessity for all countries on the southern coast of the Gulf to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness and to the fundamental rule in international law that prohibits the use of their territories and capabilities by aggressor parties to commit hostile acts against the Islamic Republic of Iran."
The Foreign Ministry called on the United Nations Secretary-General, the Security Council, and all relevant international bodies to not ignore the blatant violation by the United States of the fundamental principles and rules of the UN Charter and international law, urging them to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities towards regional and international peace and security.
