Iraq, Kuwait set 30-day deadline for joint task force on pending files

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi and Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah reached an agreement to establish a joint working group. This decision was formalized in a statement issued by the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Media Office, represented by spokesperson Al-Zaidi, and reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Saturday.

Joint mechanism for file resolution

The new body is tasked with reviewing all pending files between the two nations. Its mandate includes drafting a roadmap to address these outstanding matters. The group must present its joint recommendations to the leadership of both countries within a period not exceeding 30 days.

This accord stems from discussions held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting brought together the heads of government and the crown prince to address bilateral concerns directly.

Alternating meetings in capitals

According to the joint statement, the working group will hold its sessions continuously until its tasks are completed. These meetings will alternate between Baghdad and Kuwait City. Both sides affirmed their full support for the team’s operations and emphasized their commitment to finishing the mission efficiently.

The leaders expressed hope that this process would contribute to closing the pending files. They stated that resolving these issues would open a new phase of cooperation and partnership between the two brotherly countries, serving the interests of both the Iraqi and Kuwaiti peoples.
