Israeli reports have revealed that the Iron Dome air defense system, along with dozens of Israeli soldiers, was deployed in the United Arab Emirates during the recent conflict with Iran. This marks the first time the system has been stationed outside Israeli territory, amid rising regional tensions and missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries.

Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev confirmed that Tel Aviv sent a battery of the Iron Dome system to the UAE, accompanied by Israeli military personnel, to assist in protecting the airspace during the period of military escalation.

Additionally, Israeli Communications Minister stated in remarks reported by Hebrew media that the UAE sought Israel's assistance to counter Iranian ballistic missiles. She affirmed that Israel supplied Abu Dhabi with interceptor missiles linked to the Iron Dome system, explaining that "the Emiratis recognized that ballistic missiles represent one of the greatest challenges, which is why they turned to Israel."

Enhancing Air Defense Capabilities

According to Israeli media data, the Iron Dome system successfully intercepted several missiles launched from Iran toward UAE territory. These attacks involved ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drone strikes targeting locations within the Gulf state.

Reports indicate that the decision to deploy the system followed a phone conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reflecting the need to strengthen joint air defenses during the conflict.

Media sources further reported that the defense cooperation between Israel and the UAE extended beyond the Iron Dome, including advanced defensive technologies such as laser-based systems aimed at improving capabilities to counter increasing aerial attacks.

Prospects for Similar Systems in Saudi Arabia

Data shows that Iran launched a large number of missiles toward the UAE during the war, surpassing the volume of attacks Israel itself faced at certain stages, alongside thousands of drones. Defense systems intercepted the vast majority of these threats, despite some limited breaches.

Although there has been talk of broader regional defense cooperation, official reports have not confirmed the provision of similar systems to Saudi Arabia, despite indirect military collaboration between the two countries facilitated by the United States as an intermediary.
