Mamdani: Americans Punished Politicians Bought by the Wealthy
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani states that Democratic midterm victories reflect a rejection of politicians bought by the wealthy and a demand for cost-of-living relief.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed that the widespread victories achieved by Democratic candidates in the midterm elections reflect the ability of their programs to address the daily crises facing working-class Americans.
He explained, as reported by CNN news network, that what the country witnessed expresses a clear rejection of politicians "whose loyalties were bought by the wealthiest groups, who insist on describing citizens' needs as unrealistic."
Mamdani's statements came following the US midterm elections held on Tuesday, which saw a historic blue wave for the Democratic Party.
Democrats took control of both the House and Senate, flipping seats in states considered Republican strongholds such as Texas, Kansas, Ohio, Iowa, and South Carolina, in addition to winning several governorships.
The Democratic campaign focused on the affordability crisis, with rising prices harming ordinary citizens, leading voters to send a clear message rejecting the current administration's policies.
Mamdani stated that "these results give the Democratic Party a clear mandate to work on lowering costs and achieving tangible change felt directly in the pockets of working-class Americans, while honoring the trust these citizens placed in the party." He also affirmed that "voters are tired of empty promises and demand policies that translate into real improvement in their daily lives."
Regarding the nature of his relationship with President Donald Trump, Mamdani clarified that he is keen to deal with him with "openness and honesty," despite significant and major disagreements between them on policies. He expressed confidence in the ability of Hakeem Jeffries, the expected Speaker of the House nominee, to determine the most effective approach in dealing with Trump, whether by building a positive relationship or adopting a tougher stance.
Mamdani continued that meetings and dialogues focused on finding common ground, considering that this reflects the essence of political responsibility: working with everyone as long as the ultimate goal is to serve the interests of the people politicians represent.
