Man Who Was Injured in 2024 Attempted Assassination of Trump Dies

A 76-year-old man who was shot during a 2024 campaign rally where Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt has died, the U.S. president announced Thursday.

Trump wrote on his platform "Truth Social": "Jim Cobenhover, a true American patriot, has passed away. What a tremendous loss!"

Attempted Assassination of Trump

Cobenhover, who was wounded in his arm and abdomen, was one of two attendees seriously injured in the gunfire that erupted at the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The other attendee, firefighter Corey Comberatori, 50, was killed, while Trump was injured in his ear.

Trump said, "After being injured while defending his family, Jim displayed extraordinary courage, continued fighting bravely, and maintained high morale despite immense hardships."

A statement reported by American media from Cobenhover's attorney did not specify the cause of death, but Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday referenced on the platform "X" that he died "as a result of complications stemming from" his gunshot wounds.
