NATO Chief Urges Shift from Advanced Weapons to Mass Production
NATO's military committee head calls for prioritizing simpler, cost-effective weapons over highly advanced systems to enhance military effectiveness.

Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, the chairman of NATO's Military Committee, stated that member states should move away from focusing solely on advanced weapon systems and instead prioritize producing simpler but more effective arms.
In an interview with Euractiv, Cavo Dragone highlighted that the conflict in Ukraine demonstrated the equal importance of mass production and affordable weaponry alongside technological superiority from a military perspective.
He emphasized, "Sometimes weapons need to be good enough to be produced quickly and in large quantities."
The NATO official also encouraged allies to increase investment in drones, autonomous systems, and low-cost precision weapons, noting that these technologies can deliver comparable military impact at substantially lower costs.
He added, "Rather than pursuing the most advanced platforms, Western militaries should occasionally opt for systems that are sufficiently effective to allow rapid and large-scale production."
Meanwhile, Moscow has asserted that Europe is transforming into an economic and military bloc after recognizing that American security guarantees are no longer reliable.
