Swedish police shot an armed man outside the Royal Palace in central Stockholm following reports of a person causing disturbances and carrying a weapon.
The police stated that officers responded to the scene and fired at the man, who was injured and transported to a hospital.
Stockholm Police spokesperson Susanna Rinaldo told AFP that his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
Police did not disclose the type of weapon the man possessed, noting that the security operation was ongoing while confirming there was no danger to the public.
Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that the man approached palace guards holding a knife and asked them to shoot him.
In a later update, police announced they had opened an investigation into "serious threats against a public official," along with a serious offense related to possession of a knife, without revealing further details.
