The Kremlin quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday as saying his country is ready to supply oil and petroleum products to the United States and global markets, noting that this would support the global economy as a whole, according to Reuters.

US President Donald Trump had earlier said that Russia would immediately supply 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to global markets following a phone call he held today with his Russian counterpart.

In a statement, the Kremlin noted that the two leaders also discussed ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in Iran.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the announcement of a US-Russian agreement regarding diesel supplies, warning of its implications for the war between Moscow and Kyiv.

Zelenskyy stated in remarks today that allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in the continuation of the war rather than its end.

He affirmed that Ukraine is ready to take reciprocal steps to de-escalate tensions, while simultaneously warning that "gifting (Russian President Vladimir) Putin will not achieve peace."

Zelenskyy said: "We count on fair American support for our efforts to protect lives and safeguard our people in Ukraine."
