Romania Announces Arrival of 450 US Military Personnel to Strengthen NATO's Eastern Flank
Romania’s acting defense minister announced the arrival of approximately 450 additional US military personnel to bolster NATO’s eastern flank, describing the increase as significant for national strategic interests.

Radu Mirotsu, Acting Minister of National Defense in Romania, revealed the reinforcement of the American military presence on Romanian soil with an increase ranging between 440 and 450 new personnel. This came during statements made by Mirotsu to TVR 1 channel, where he described this number as "large" compared to the previously stationed forces.

The Romanian official clarified that this increase in American troops perfectly matches Romania's strategic interests. He pointed to ongoing discussions at the level of the presidential administration and other levels, focusing on enhancing the presence of American military personnel within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) eastern flank.
Current Deployment Statistics
Current data indicates the deployment of more than 5,500 soldiers from NATO member countries inside Romania. American elements represent a prominent part of this total, numbering around 1,500 military personnel before the addition of the new batch announced by Mirotsu.
Main Basing Locations
Most American forces concentrate their positioning at an air base located in the town of Mihail Kogălniceanu. Other units are based at the Deveselu military base, a vital facility housing part of NATO's missile shield system.
Background of the Aegis Ashore System
The actual operation of the fixed ground site for the American "Aegis Ashore" system began in the town of Deveselu since May 2016. This site is equipped to launch interceptor missiles, in addition to its capability to accommodate long-range cruise attack missiles.
