On Monday, Kyiv authorities reported that Russian drone strikes resulted in at least one fatality and approximately 20 injuries across multiple Ukrainian cities. This occurred amid reciprocal long-range attacks between Moscow and Kyiv and ongoing difficulties in peace negotiations.

Officials confirmed that one person was killed in Kherson, located in southern Ukraine, while eight others were wounded in Chernihiv to the north. The attacks caused power outages affecting around 10,000 residents in Chernihiv, according to France Press.

Emergency services in Chernihiv released footage showing firefighting teams attempting to extinguish a large blaze that broke out around midnight following the strikes.

Ukrainian Air Force Reports Drone Interceptions

The Ukrainian Air Force stated that during this wave of attacks, Russian forces launched 265 combat drones, of which 228 were intercepted and destroyed by air defenses.

Additional casualties were reported from strikes on other cities: seven people were injured in Odesa on the Black Sea coast, four in Kharkiv in central Ukraine, one in Zaporizhzhia to the south, and at least two more in Kherson.

Continued Nightly Attacks and Retaliations

Moscow continues to carry out nearly nightly strikes against Ukraine, while Kyiv intensifies retaliatory attacks primarily targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure.

This escalation unfolds as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, enters its fourth year. The conflict remains one of the deadliest in Europe since World War II, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and displacing millions.
