Saudi air defenses intercept ballistic missile, two drones targeting Riyadh

Saudi air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Houthi forces toward Khamis Mushait in the southwest of the Kingdom. This operation was confirmed by the Arab Coalition forces, which oversee military support for the legitimate government in Yemen.

Coalition confirms interception details

Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki, the official spokesperson for the Coalition Forces supporting Legitimacy in Yemen, stated that the defensive measures also neutralized two unmanned aerial vehicles. These drones were reportedly launched by the Houthi militia with the intention of targeting the Riyadh region.

GCC Secretary-General condemns attacks

In response to the drone assault on the capital, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), issued a strong condemnation. He described the incidents as "extremely dangerous escalation" and a "direct threat to regional security." The statement specifically referenced the "terrorist Houthi attacks" on both Riyadh and Khamis Mushait.

Albudaiwi expressed severe disapproval of the use of ballistic missiles and drones against these Saudi cities. In a statement published on the GCC’s official website, he emphasized that this serious escalation constitutes a "blatant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty." He further noted that such actions pose a direct risk to civilian safety and regional stability.

Call for international firm stance

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the unified position of GCC member states alongside Saudi Arabia. He declared full support for any measures the Kingdom takes to protect its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Additionally, he urged the international community to adopt a decisive stance to halt these repeated terrorist attacks and hold their perpetrators accountable.
