The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has submitted a request to Congress for an additional $87.6 billion in funding to replenish resources depleted by the war against Iran and to continue reconstruction projects in the capital, Washington, according to a letter obtained by CNN.

The majority of the requested funds come from the Department of Defense, which is asking Congress to allocate over $67.1 billion to cover operational costs arising from the conflict with Iran. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has held meetings with lawmakers in preparation for formally submitting the request.

Other agencies have also sought supplementary funding from Congress due to the war. This includes more than $2 billion for the Department of Homeland Security specifically to support the Coast Guard, over $90 million from the Department of Energy for a classified request related to operations in Iran, and $40 million from the Department of Justice.

The Office of Management and Budget's request to House Speaker Mike Johnson formalizes these demands, which will test Republican support for the military effort.

The funding request extends beyond the Iran war. The Department of the Interior is seeking $500 million for the National Park Service Construction account to assist in restoring the seawall and the World War II Memorial.

Additionally, the Department of Agriculture is requesting $11 billion to provide economic assistance to farmers and agricultural producers affected by winter storms.

Alongside these funding requests, the administration is asking Congress to permanently authorize the year-round sale of the ethanol-gasoline blend E15 at fuel stations, among other legislative amendments.

President Trump stated that Iran is agreeing to "everything I want."
