Former President Donald Trump has called for the withdrawal of Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola from the Alaska race, accusing her of spoiling the election amid reports of a spoiler candidate strategy.

On Wednesday, former US President Donald Trump demanded that Mary Peltola, the Democratic nominee for the Senate seat representing Alaska, withdraw from the race, accusing her of "spoiling" the election in Alaska.
This comes less than a week before America's midterm elections and following a New York Times report stating that Democrats close to Mary Peltola contributed to pushing forward a candidate aimed at splitting the vote.
The report caused a shake-up in the electoral race due to the introduction of a vote-splitting candidate in the Alaska Senate contest, while Trump called for criminal prosecution of Mary Peltola.
As the election date approaches, candidates across the country are seeking to convince voters of their competence and worthiness, sometimes relying on the support of heavyweight political figures, according to CNN.
For his part, Republican Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska criticized his opponent, describing the entry of another candidate with the same name—a retired teacher—as "a deliberate attempt to deceive Alaskans."
The story of the "spoiler candidate" in Alaska is based on recorded statements made by a former campaign manager; however, this is not the first time a former employee has sparked controversy surrounding a candidate, according to the network.
The Secretary of Homeland Security reassured employees that the midterm elections would be safe, but simultaneously launched vague and unsubstantiated claims about vulnerabilities in the system.
