US President Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility of launching new strikes on Iran after the upcoming midterm elections scheduled for next Tuesday.

Responding to a question about the possibility of further strikes on Iran after the elections, Trump said: "Anything is possible," according to Reuters.

On Tuesday, Trump considered the short-term ceasefire agreement reached by his administration with Iran last June/July to be a "waste of time," confirming that he had not supported it from the beginning.
During a campaign rally, Trump said, referring to the war with Iran: "We announced a short ceasefire; I didn't like it much."

He added: "I considered it a kind of waste of time, but sometimes it's better to listen to the experts."

The US president provided no further details about the agreement, which collapsed shortly after being reached without achieving its stated goals, primarily the launch of negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.

Trump's remarks reflect a shift in his stance on the agreement, having previously praised it when it was announced last June, describing it as "a great day for world peace."

At that time, Trump also expressed hope that the ceasefire would represent "the beginning of a new golden age in the Middle East," before military confrontations resumed and diplomatic efforts stalled.
