President Trump told CNN he expects Iran to respond to a US proposal to end the war later tonight, while declining to say if Tehran is stalling.

The White House is awaiting word from Tehran on a one-page memorandum to halt hostilities and establish a framework for more detailed nuclear talks. President Donald Trump revealed early Saturday that the United States anticipates receiving Iran's reply to the latest American proposal to end the war later tonight, according to an interview with CNN.
Speaking to a CNN correspondent as he left the White House, Trump addressed the delay in Iran's response: "We will receive a message, and it's supposed to be tonight. We'll know soon enough." He suggested Iran was stalling but declined to say whether he believes Tehran is "deliberately dragging its feet."
Hours earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US expects to receive a response from Iran on Friday regarding the proposal. "We'll see what their response contains. We hope it's a response that paves the way for a serious negotiation process. I hope it's a serious offer, I really do," Rubio said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held phone conversations with his Turkish and British counterparts regarding recent regional developments related to the ongoing war with America and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi's latest statements on platform X took an escalatory tone: "Every time a diplomatic solution is proposed, the United States chooses a reckless military adventure." He questioned: "Is it a crude pressure tactic? Or the result of another sabotage attempt to drag the US president into a new quagmire? Whatever the reasons, the result is the same: Iranians do not surrender to pressure."
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also posted, speaking of "struggle against injustice," writing: "The policy of colonialism and exploitation will have no place in the world of the future."
Iran has confirmed through some of its officials in recent statements that it is holding consultations with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei regarding the American proposals. No formal response has been issued yet, and there has been no comment from Khamenei or even a public appearance after a long period of absence.
