Trump: Historians Will Realize We Did the Right Thing by Attacking Iran

President Donald Trump affirmed that the U.S. decision to strike Iran was "necessary" to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons, adding that "historians will realize we did the right thing when we attacked Iran."

Speaking during an interview on the podcast "LT. DAN," Trump said Iran was just two weeks away from possessing a nuclear weapon, and without U.S. intervention and destruction of its nuclear capabilities, Tehran would have been on track to acquire such arms.

He added: "Had we not sent B-2 bombers a year ago to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities, Tehran would now possess the weapon or be on the verge of doing so."

He argued that Iran possessing a nuclear weapon would have led to the "dissolution of Israel and the Middle East," and noted Iran would have used the weapon against cities within the United States.

Trump described Iranians as "crazy" and "people with sick minds," emphasizing that the U.S. cannot allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons.

He pointed out that he was aware the U.S. economy was performing well at the time, noting that stock markets were hitting record highs and oil prices had fallen to their lowest levels in ten years.

He said he told his team, nonetheless, that "he hated doing this," but the U.S. had to act to stop Iran and prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons.

He stressed that the bottom line, despite what he described as a major American success, was simple: "Iran must not be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon."

He explained that when some people expressed hope the U.S. wouldn’t take this step, he would pose one question: "Is it acceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon?"

He added that he asked this question hundreds of times, and according to him, no one had ever answered "yes."

Trump insisted Iran "will never possess a nuclear weapon," declaring: "I won," adding that the U.S. "now controls the Strait of Hormuz," repeating the phrase multiple times.

He addressed criticism regarding short-term hardship versus long-term gains, saying the U.S. action was necessary.

He added that historians "will look back and realize we did the right thing," expressing hope that this would happen.

Trump said Iran’s true nature "is now exposed," and the level of its extremism has become clear, noting the U.S. could have chosen not to act, which would have been "much easier."

He continued that failing to act might have prevented this conversation today, because, according to his account, Iran "would have used the nuclear weapon quickly."
