Trump Rings Opening Bell at White House for New Savings Initiative
President Donald Trump rang the opening bell for the New York and Nasdaq stock exchanges from the White House to launch the "Trump Accounts" savings initiative.
In an unprecedented event, President Donald Trump rang the opening bell for both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq from his office in the White House. This marked the first time such an occasion took place, celebrating the official launch of a new program called "Trump Accounts."
A video released by the White House showed Trump striking the bell inside the Oval Office during the ceremony, accompanied by Treasury Secretary Scott Peasent and a group of children. Trump highlighted that the new investment savings accounts, which will allow contributions of up to $5,000 annually, are designed to benefit children from low-income families the most.
Trump stated, "Imagine this; children born with no money—meaning no money at all—can become extremely wealthy by the time they turn eighteen."
Treasury Secretary Scott Peasent noted that six million American children have already been enrolled in these accounts, with 86% belonging to families earning less than $200,000 annually.
Historically, former President Ronald Reagan was the first sitting U.S. president to travel from the White House to Wall Street to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange trading floor.
Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance praised the initiative, saying, "The Trump administration believes every American child has the right to a stake in their country's future."
Vance added on his X platform account that "one way to achieve this is through 'Trump Accounts,' which provide $1,000 to every American child born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028."
He further explained, "'Trump Accounts' make it easier for parents to pave the way for their children's success through a simple app and a policy specifically designed to serve hardworking American families," expressing gratitude to the president and the treasury secretary.
