US President Donald Trump threatened on Monday to 'annihilate' Iran if it attacks American ships that have begun securing the passage of several vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump told Fox News: 'Iran will be annihilated from the face of the earth if it attacks American ships that are carrying out the freedom project,' referring to the project announced by the US president to escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran is blocking.
He added: 'Either the Iranians reach an agreement in good faith or we resume fighting,' noting that Iran has become more flexible in peace negotiations.
Trump stressed the continuation of the US military buildup in the region, adding: 'We have more weapons and ammunition, and at a much higher level than we had before.'
