U.S. Homeland Security Secretary's Plane Experiences Technical Failure During Flight

The U.S. Coast Guard C101 aircraft carrying U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin experienced a technical failure during a flight, leading to an emergency landing at "Ronald Reagan National Airport" in Washington.

The Coast Guard aircraft declared an in-flight emergency after its right engine failed during the flight, prompting a course change toward Reagan National Airport for an urgent landing.

The jet was carrying Secretary Mullin and 14 other individuals, including other department officials, and the pilot requested permission for an emergency landing, according to CNN.

U.S. Secretary Mullin praised the U.S. Coast Guard crew in a post on his X account following the safe landing of the aircraft.

He wrote: "The U.S. Coast Guard pilots made landing on a single engine appear routine; there was no panic, only complete professionalism.

He added: "After landing, the pilots told me this situation was unprecedented for them! We couldn’t have been in safer hands."

In a similar incident last month, 181 people experienced moments of terror aboard a United Airlines flight after one of its engines caught fire following a bird strike shortly after takeoff from Myrtle Beach International Airport in South Carolina.

The Boeing 737 aircraft was en route to Charlotte when the crew detected a sudden malfunction in the left engine.

According to the network, the flight captain reported an emergency to air traffic control, while another pilot observed the incident and suspected a bird strike.
