Ukraine Launches 21 Refinery Strikes in August, Disrupting Russian Fuel

Russian Samara Oblast Governor Viacheslav Fedorishchev reported via Telegram that a Ukrainian aerial attack caused damage to civilian facilities in the region. He added that preliminary information indicates no casualties were recorded.

Unprecedented Refinery Assaults Since July

Ukraine has carried out at least 21 strikes on Russian oil refineries during August — the highest monthly total recorded to date. This wave of attacks has reignited fuel shortages across Russia.

Crude oil refining operations have fallen to their lowest level in over two decades. Motorists are encountering worsening gasoline shortages, accompanied by long queues at filling stations.

Fuel Availability Fluctuations

According to Bloomberg, fuel availability improved during a lull in Ukrainian strikes against Russia’s refining infrastructure in the second half of July. However, that improvement proved short-lived.
