Ukraine's military expenditure in 2026 has reached a record high of $98 billion, based on estimates from the TASS agency citing data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance.

This level of spending represents approximately half of the country's gross domestic product, which was around $214 billion in 2025.

Earlier reports from the Stockholm Institute indicated that Ukraine's military spending had previously reached historic levels of about $84.1 billion, equating to roughly 40% of the nation's total GDP.

The increase in the defense budget has positioned Ukraine as the seventh-largest military spender globally. These funds are allocated toward expanding defense capabilities, financing salaries for frontline troops, and procuring critical equipment such as AI-supported drones.

European defense priorities are being reshaped with a focus on drones and artificial intelligence technologies.
