The US Department of Defense announced on Wednesday that the US Army has entered into a contract with Lockheed Martin valued at $58.62 billion for the production of Patriot interceptor missiles.

This agreement represents a record-setting contract, allocated amid shrinking US weapons stockpiles due to ongoing conflicts worldwide, according to Reuters.

The United States has supplied its allies with large quantities of weapons while also using munitions in its military operations in Iran, raising concerns about the reserves of key air defense weapons and precision-guided munitions.

The US Army clarified that this contract converts a previous one-year agreement worth $4.7 billion, signed in April, into a draft seven-year agreement. This covers a multi-year procurement plan for interceptor missiles from fiscal year 2026 through 2032.
