US Homeland Security Probes Cyberattack on Information Sharing Network
The US Department of Homeland Security is investigating a recent cyber breach affecting a sensitive but unclassified information sharing network.

The US Department of Homeland Security announced on Thursday that it is investigating a cyberattack on an unnamed information sharing network.
In a statement, the department confirmed a "recent cyber incident" involving a "non-classified information sharing environment" but did not provide further specifics.
The website GovExec, which first reported the incident, indicated that the breach affected the Homeland Security Information Network. This platform is used to exchange sensitive but unclassified data with partners such as foreign law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and other organizations.
According to two unnamed sources cited by GovExec, the intrusion is believed to have occurred between late May and early June.
Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, described the information contained in the network as "extremely sensitive despite being unclassified," warning that its exposure threatens national security.
He urged the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to conduct a "thorough investigation" to identify those responsible for the breach and determine what information was accessed.
