The US Treasury Department warned on Friday that any shipping company that pays fees to Iran for transit through the Strait of Hormuz, including charitable donations to organizations such as the Iranian Red Crescent Society, is subject to severe sanctions, according to "Reuters" agency.
Tehran proposed imposing fees on ships crossing the strait, as part of proposals to end the war with Israel and the United States.
A statement from the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control stated that the United States is aware of Iranian threats to navigation through the strait and its demands for payments to ensure safe passage through the strait.
The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control announced on Tuesday that companies paying "transit fees" to Iran for passage through the Strait of Hormuz would face "significant sanctions," as part of tightening economic pressure on Tehran.
In this context, the US government announced on Tuesday the imposition of sanctions on 35 entities and individuals, accusing them of involvement in operating a parallel banking system in Iran, facilitating the transfer of tens of billions of dollars linked to sanctions evasion, and supporting activities that Washington describes as terrorist.
