The Yemeni government warned of a dangerous escalation following renewed Houthi attacks on Aden's Maashiq Palace and airport, alongside an attempted targeting of Mecca.

The Yemeni government warned of a dangerous escalation in the region following the resurgence of Houthi attacks on Maashiq Palace and Aden International Airport, coinciding with an attempt to target Mecca. It considered these assaults to go beyond targeting state institutions and civilian facilities, extending to threatening regional security and stability and violating the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.
A statement from the Cabinet affirmed that the repeated targeting of Aden International Airport by the militia supported by the Iranian regime—a vital civilian facility serving citizens and connecting Yemen to the world—represents a direct attack on citizens' interests and an attempt to disrupt public institutions and undermine the state's ability to fulfill its obligations.
It noted that targeting Maashiq Palace, the seat of the government and state institutions in the temporary capital of Aden, will not change the fact that the state continues to perform its responsibilities, nor will it achieve what the militia seeks: confusing legitimate institutions or imposing reality by force.
Measures to Protect Facilities and Enhance Security Readiness
The statement emphasized that the government treats these attacks as a direct threat to state authority, citizen safety, and the continuity of services and vital facilities. This requires a comprehensive institutional response that goes beyond reactions to practical measures, including protecting facilities, enhancing security readiness, strengthening coordination among relevant agencies, and taking necessary steps to ensure the uninterrupted operation of institutions and civilian utilities.
It also confirmed that protecting citizens and public facilities and securing the temporary capital of Aden is a national responsibility that tolerates no negligence. The repetition of attacks will not deter the government from fulfilling its duties toward citizens, strengthening the presence of its institutions, and exercising its constitutional powers in coordination with the Presidential Leadership Council, local authorities, and military and security apparatuses, ensuring the cohesion of state institutions and their capacity to face challenges.
Solidarity with Saudi Arabia
The government announced its full solidarity with the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in facing threats targeting its security. It pointed out that the coincidence of these attacks with the attempt to target Mecca places the international community before a clear responsibility regarding behavior that threatens regional security, freedom of air navigation, and civilian facilities, extending to violating the holiest of Muslim sacred sites.
It stated that confronting these threats requires a practical international stance commensurate with their danger, preventing their continuation and the evasion of accountability by those responsible.
It also stressed its commitment to its constitutional and national responsibilities, and to working towards restoring state institutions and ending the coup, parallel to protecting citizens and preserving their assets. It affirmed that targeting the state will not disable its functions, that targeting Aden will not strip away its role, and that terrorism will never be an alternative to state authority nor a means to impose a coup on the Yemeni people.
