ChatGPT Adds US Bank Account Integration for Personalized Finance
OpenAI introduces a new ChatGPT feature allowing US Pro subscribers to link bank accounts for tailored financial insights. The service connects with over 12,000 institutions via Plaid but has no confirmed international rollout yet.

More than 200 million users consult ChatGPT monthly for financial advice, and now US Pro subscribers can link their bank accounts directly to receive customized money management guidance. This new capability launched in May 2026, enabling users to view balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities through an integrated dashboard.
The feature leverages Plaid’s network, which supports connections to over 12,000 financial institutions such as Citi, Chase, Affirm, and Robinhood. Users can interact with their financial data by asking straightforward questions about spending patterns, savings progress, or budget impacts. Access is available via a dedicated Finances section in the ChatGPT sidebar or by issuing commands like "@Finances, connect my accounts."
Development and Privacy Safeguards
This financial integration follows OpenAI’s acquisition of Hiro, an AI startup specializing in personal finance, whose technology underpins the new feature’s financial reasoning abilities. OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT only obtains read-only access to accounts, preventing any transactions or changes to account settings.
Users retain full control over their data, with options to disconnect accounts or erase stored financial information at any time. Conversations held in temporary chat mode are not saved, and existing user preferences to exclude data from model training continue to apply.
Regulatory and Geographic Limitations
Currently, the service is restricted to US Pro subscribers, who pay $200 monthly for access. Although Plaid holds authorization from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to provide account information services, OpenAI has not announced plans or timelines for launching the feature in the UK or other countries.
UK financial regulations under Open Banking require explicit FCA-approved consent processes for third-party data access, meaning OpenAI must establish compliance before expanding internationally. Pricing strategies for potential UK availability remain undecided, with the current US subscription fee translating to about £150.
Future Enhancements
OpenAI plans to integrate Intuit services, which would introduce tax scenario modeling to the platform, enhancing the range of financial tools available to users. This addition aims to provide deeper insights into users’ overall financial health.
