Elon Musk's xAI Sues User for Creating Child Sexual Abuse Material with AI System Grok
xAI, owned by Elon Musk, filed a lawsuit against a man who used its AI system Grok to produce child sexual abuse content, marking one of the first such legal actions.

The artificial intelligence company xAI, owned by Elon Musk, has initiated legal proceedings against a man accused of using its AI system, Grok, to generate child sexual abuse material.
This lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in a federal court in Texas, represents one of the earliest cases in which an AI company is suing a user for misusing its technology to create sexually explicit content involving minors.
xAI's complaint names Terry Harwood, a resident of South Carolina who was arrested in February on charges related to child sexual exploitation, accusing him of violating the company's terms of service.
The lawsuit states that Harwood uploaded ordinary images of children and adults into the Grok system and attempted to use it to generate synthetic sexual images and videos (deepfakes) based on those photos. He is also accused of producing non-consensual adult sexual content.
This legal action comes amid intense global scrutiny of xAI, following earlier allegations that the Grok system allowed users to create unethical sexual content without the consent of the individuals depicted.
xAI emphasized in its filing that it enforces strict measures against violators, including suspending or terminating accounts and reporting any suspicious child-related content to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States.
The company has requested the court to impose unspecified financial penalties and to issue a permanent injunction barring Harwood from using the Grok system in the future.
In its complaint, xAI described Harwood's actions as a "deliberate scheme to weaponize the company's tool for criminal purposes," causing profound and lasting harm to real victims and exposing the company to significant legal risks and reputational damage.
