OpenAI Developing ChatGPT 'Super App' to Enhance Business Appeal
OpenAI is preparing a new ChatGPT version designed as a “super app” with AI agents and coding tools to boost business user engagement and approach profitability.

OpenAI is preparing to introduce an updated ChatGPT version in the near future, aiming to transform it into a “super app” that integrates coding capabilities and AI agents, as reported by the Financial Times.
The initiative targets increased competitiveness against Anthropic, especially within the business sector, while advancing toward profitability ahead of a potential initial public offering. The strategy involves converting ChatGPT into a platform that directs free users toward paid offerings, such as the coding tool Codex. A senior OpenAI employee was quoted saying, “Chat is dead.”
Thibault Sottiaux, who oversees OpenAI’s core product and platform, described the company’s vision as creating a product featuring a personal agent capable of assisting users comprehensively in both personal and professional contexts.
This development aligns with previously reported ambitions by OpenAI to build a super app, which have been circulating since last year.
In March, The Wall Street Journal noted that this approach marks a significant strategic shift for OpenAI following the release of multiple standalone products in 2025. Executives have indicated they are moving away from “side quests” such as the video generator Sora.
