Macron Announces Ban on Social Media Use for Children Under 15

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday that a law prohibiting children under the age of 15 from using social media will come into effect starting with the next academic year.

In a post on the platform X, Macron confirmed that the law had been successfully voted on in parliament, emphasizing that the measure aims to protect children from the dangers of the digital environment.

He stated, "I had committed to this, it is now voted: social networks will be banned for those under 15 at the start of the school year. Thanks to the parliamentarians. The Constitutional Council must now rule, then action will follow to make this measure concrete and protect our children online."

Macron further explained that the bill is currently awaiting final approval from the Constitutional Council before it can be implemented on the ground. He expressed his gratitude to the deputies for supporting what he described as a "historic" step toward safeguarding the younger generation.
