Barcelona secured the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a fee of £69.3 million (€80 million), with the England international agreeing to a five-year contract. The 25-year-old winger, who was Newcastle's top scorer last season, surprised attendees at his unveiling by speaking fluent Spanish during part of his initial press conference.

The former Everton player was formally introduced to the media on Friday evening after finalising his transfer to Camp Nou. In the closing stages of the Premier League season, Newcastle United left Gordon on the bench for their last four matches, apparently to preserve him ahead of the high-profile summer move. The transfer fee assists Newcastle in meeting financial regulations while allowing Gordon to pursue his ambition of playing abroad before the upcoming World Cup.

During the press event, Gordon delivered a flawless opening statement in Spanish, demonstrating his language skills. He also impressed local supporters by communicating in Catalan while signing autographs, expressing his happiness with the phrase "Estic molt feliç," meaning "I'm very happy."

The player disclosed that his language preparation was motivated by a childhood aspiration: "I wanted to speak Spanish because, as a kid, I believed I would play for Barca, believe it or not. I have a physio in Newcastle and we spoke every day and I told him that one day I would play for Barca, so I wanted to learn Spanish."

Before fully engaging with his new club, Gordon must focus on his international responsibilities as he joins the England squad for the World Cup in North America. After the tournament, he faces the challenge of adapting to Barcelona's tactical style in La Liga, aiming to match the 17 goals he scored in the Premier League last season under significant media attention.
