Arsenal prioritizes Mikel Arteta contract renewal amid title success
Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke confirms that securing Mikel Arteta's contract extension is the club's top priority following a Premier League title-winning season.

Securing Mikel Arteta’s long-term commitment stands as Arsenal’s foremost objective this summer, according to co-chair Josh Kroenke. The club’s leadership is confident the manager will extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium after guiding the team to a Premier League title.
Arteta contract extension and club confidence
Kroenke emphasized that finalizing a new contract for Arteta is the club’s primary focus, especially as the current deal enters its final year. The urgency to agree on terms reflects the manager’s role in reshaping Arsenal into a winning team. Speaking to NBC Sports, Kroenke stated, "Keeping Mikel around is an utmost priority, and the good news for Arsenal fans worldwide is he’s enjoying the project."
He added, "He is enjoying being here, and from his time as a player all the way up until now, he’s an Arsenal man through and through."
Building on recent Premier League triumph
Arteta’s contract discussions follow a historic season that ended Arsenal’s 22-year wait for a Premier League title. The club is also preparing for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, highlighting the competitive progress under the Spaniard’s leadership.
Kroenke credited both the manager and players for this success: "If there is a singular person you can trace this all back to, I’m going to give 100 per cent credit to Mikel, his staff, and the players. Those are the ones. As much as Mikel is putting together our tactics, the players have got to go play the games; they’ve got to go and win for you."
Plans for sustained dominance in English football
Despite the recent achievements, Kroenke expressed determination to avoid complacency. Drawing from his experience with NBA and NFL championship teams, he stressed the need for continuous improvement to maintain Arsenal’s competitive edge. "We’re going to look to strengthen because we know that teams around us are going to get better. If you’re not trying to continually evolve and improve, you’re standing still," he said.
He reflected on the timing of Arsenal’s success, noting, "Obviously Pep [Guardiola] is just moving on and even a few years ago, you think back to 2019, 2020, and think: ‘When is our win window going to open?’ It could have been open for us even sooner than this in the process."
Summer transfer strategy and squad reinforcement
Working with sporting director Andrea Berta, Arsenal plans to be active in the upcoming transfer window. The club aims to add a defender, midfielder, and forward to strengthen squad depth for the next season. This approach follows a £250 million investment last year that was pivotal in their title run.
Kroenke recounted a discussion with Berta that underscored the club’s ambitions: "I went into Andrea, and I laid out our championship rings. I said: 'This is what we’re here for.' So as we start to shape our thinking, know this is what we’re going for."
He continued, "The thinking holistically was instead of one particular player, filling out the squad with quality depth. You have to tip your hat to Andrea and our entire sporting staff for that."
