Atletico Madrid Pursues PSG Midfielder with €35 Million Price
Atletico Madrid is advancing talks to acquire PSG midfielder Lee Kang-in, who is valued at €35 million and interested in returning to Spain.

Atletico Madrid is intensifying efforts to sign PSG midfielder Lee Kang-in this summer, aiming to boost creativity in their midfield under Diego Simeone. The South Korean international is reportedly eager to return to Spanish football, while PSG is open to offers that meet their €35 million valuation.
The club has prioritized Kang-in as they seek to reinforce their midfield options, according to ESPN. Currently competing for South Korea at the 2026 World Cup, the 25-year-old midfielder is said to be receptive to a return to La Liga, where he previously played for Valencia and Mallorca before his move to France.
Atletico's Interest in Kang-in
Diego Simeone has admired Kang-in's versatility and technical skills for some time. Atletico views the midfielder as a potential source of additional creativity, especially after experiencing inconsistency in that area during the previous season. PSG is willing to consider offers from interested clubs that meet the set price of €35 million.
PSG's Position and Player's Contract
PSG would approve Kang-in's transfer if the asking price is fulfilled, which would yield a significant profit since they acquired him from Mallorca for around €20 million three years ago. Lee has two years remaining on his contract with PSG, but limited appearances in major European matches last season have raised questions about his future at the club.
The midfielder reportedly prefers a move back to Spain, where he has prior experience, as opposed to remaining in France.
PSG's Plans for Replacement
In anticipation of Kang-in's potential departure, PSG has begun scouting replacements. Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche has emerged as the leading candidate, having drawn attention through a strong Ligue 1 season. This interest aligns with PSG's strategy to recruit promising French talent for the future.
Next Steps for Atletico Madrid
Atletico must decide whether to meet PSG's €35 million valuation and expedite negotiations to secure Kang-in. Acquiring the South Korean player would be a notable reinforcement for Simeone's squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Any transfer is expected to occur after the World Cup, as Kang-in is currently focused on his national team. Following South Korea's 2-1 win over Czechia in their Group A opener, they are scheduled to face Mexico at the Estadio Guadalajara on June 19.
