In the 27th minute of the Champions League final in Budapest, the match was interrupted when Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov suffered a kick to the back of his head while attempting to clear a low cross.

Arsenal held a 1-0 lead at the time, courtesy of Kai Havertz’s goal in the fourth minute. Safonov had recently made a crucial save to deny Leandro Trossard a close-range opportunity that could have doubled Arsenal’s advantage.

Following the incident, Safonov remained on the ground holding his head as PSG’s medical team quickly attended to him, applying an ice pack to reduce swelling. After treatment, he was able to stand and continued playing in goal when the match resumed three minutes later.

Despite PSG’s control of possession, their attacking trio struggled to influence the game before halftime, with the first shot on target arriving only during added time at the end of the first half. Arsenal maintained a strong defensive setup, frustrating the defending champions.

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha commented on BBC Radio 5 Live about Arsenal’s defensive organization, stating, "Arsenal won't care what the possession stats say. They are very comfortable without the ball. PSG haven't broken through them yet, and Arsenal are very well organised. The challenge for PSG is to find some gaps in the Gunners defence, and there literally aren't any at the moment."

Arsenal’s lead at halftime echoed their advantage from a match against Barcelona 20 years ago, but unlike that game, they remain at full strength without any players sent off, preserving their tactical plan intact.
