Courtois Aims for Fourth Zamora Trophy as Madrid Reinforces Defense
Thibaut Courtois, 34, aims to win his fourth Zamora Trophy this season — a feat that would place him among just six goalkeepers in La Liga history to achieve four or more wins.

Thibaut Courtois, 34, has set his sights on claiming a fourth Zamora Trophy this season — his ninth with Real Madrid — a milestone that would place him in elite company among La Liga’s all-time top goalkeepers.
Historic achievement within reach
According to AS, the Real Madrid goalkeeper is targeting the distinction of being La Liga’s least-beaten goalkeeper once again — a title he last held during the 2019–20 campaign.
Should he succeed, Courtois would become only the sixth goalkeeper in league history to win the Zamora Trophy four or more times.
He would join Juan Acuña and Santiago Cañizares, each with four wins; Antoni Ramallets and Víctor Valdés, each with five; and Jan Oblak, who holds the record with six.
Courtois has secured the Zamora Trophy only once while at Real Madrid — in 2019–20 — when he conceded 20 goals across 34 league appearances and contributed to the club’s league title triumph.
He previously won the award twice with Atlético Madrid, despite spending just three seasons there compared to eight at Real Madrid.
Injuries and defensive instability have blocked his path to further Zamora success since 2019–20.
Defensive reinforcements bolster Zamora bid
Real Madrid prioritized backline depth this summer, signing three defenders among their six new arrivals: Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, and Denzel Dumfries.
The additions aim to address recurring defensive setbacks, including frequent serious injuries that previously forced the club into tactical improvisation.
The strengthened squad now offers greater quality and depth across the defensive unit.
That reinforcement aligns with manager José Mourinho’s long-standing emphasis on building teams anchored by a resilient, low-conceding defence.
Courtois, fully recovered from the World Cup injury he sustained, is considered one of Mourinho’s untouchable players.
He now seeks to reclaim the Zamora Trophy from Barcelona’s Joan García, who captured the award in his debut season at the Spotify Camp Nou — and prevent García from repeating the achievement.
