Flick calls Yamal 'special' but warns Barça against Betis trap

Lamine Yamal is a "special player," according to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who simultaneously cautioned his squad against underestimating their upcoming challenge. Despite the allure of high-profile matches against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid on the horizon, Flick demanded absolute concentration for the trip to Seville.

The danger of looking ahead

Flick identified focusing on future fixtures as a significant error. The league leaders are scheduled to face third-placed Real Betis at La Cartuja on Saturday, a venue where Manuel Pellegrini’s side remains unbeaten this season. The German coach stressed that securing three points in Seville is currently the team's only priority.

Betis have demonstrated substantial improvement in recent years, posing a formidable test. Flick highlighted the opposition's individual quality and tactical evolution under Pellegrini, noting their confidence stems from winning every home game. He warned that the hosts possess fantastic players capable of excelling in one-on-one situations.

Managing Yamal's minutes

Amidst these warnings, Flick praised teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal’s extraordinary performances. Emphasizing the need to keep the young winger happy and engaged, the manager declared during his pre-match press conference: "He's a special player."

"We have to manage his minutes, but the important thing is that he enjoys playing," Flick added. "That's how things are at the moment and I don't want to interrupt that."

Barça's momentum and next steps

With Yamal in peak form and key players returning to fitness, Barcelona aim to cement their position at the top of La Liga by targeting an eleventh victory of the season. Flick believes Barça have already shown they have what it takes to rise to such a demanding challenge.

The team will look to execute their game plan in Seville before turning their attention to European duties and the upcoming El Clasico. Maintaining focus against Betis remains vital for Barcelona to extend their winning momentum across all competitions.
