Hussein El Shahat has dealt Egyptian club Al Ahly a setback in its efforts to renew his contract, which is due to expire in days, as talks with the player’s camp have yet to produce a final agreement.

His deal with Al Ahly runs until 30 June 2026, and negotiations between the two sides have taken place in recent days without reaching a conclusive result. A report on ON Sport said the renewal meeting was held over the past few days, lasted less than 30 minutes and was described as quick.

The same report said Al Ahly offered El Shahat a two-year extension worth 40 million pounds, along with an advertising contract whose value was not specified, while the appearance-percentage clause was removed in recognition of his history with the club. El Shahat rejected the proposal, saying it did not match what he has given to Al Ahly, especially since some players in the squad receive that salary over a single season.

He asked for 35 million pounds per season, according to the report, which added that no final agreement was reached in the meeting. The two sides instead agreed to continue negotiations in the coming period, in appreciation of the player’s career with the team and his role in helping it win many titles in the red shirt.

On the pitch, El Shahat played 29 matches for Al Ahly in the 2025-2026 season, totaling 1,029 minutes, scoring six goals and providing four assists. Al Ahly finished the current season third in the Egyptian league table with 53 points, behind champions Zamalek, while Pyramids came second.

Al Ahly will play in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, while Zamalek and Pyramids will take part in the CAF Champions League.
