Jorge Jesus Responds to Speculation About Portugal National Team Role
Jorge Jesus addresses rumors linking him to Portugal's national team coaching position after the 2026 World Cup amid his uncertain future at Al-Nassr.

Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese head coach of Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr football club, responded to recent reports connecting him to the possibility of managing Portugal's national team following the 2026 World Cup. These rumors have emerged alongside speculation about his potential departure from Al-Nassr.
Jesus left Saudi Arabia to take a vacation after leading Al-Nassr to victory in the Saudi Roshn League. The team secured the title with a commanding 4-1 win over Damac in the final round, finishing the season with 86 points, two points ahead of Al-Hilal. This achievement marked Al-Nassr's first league championship since 2019.
Previously, Jesus hinted at the possibility of leaving Al-Nassr despite successfully returning the club to championship status after a seven-year gap. However, Abdullah Al-Majed, president of Al-Nassr, surprised many by affirming the club's commitment to retaining the Portuguese coach.
In a televised statement, Al-Majed said, "We will do everything possible to keep Jesus because he has made a significant difference. I believed in him from the start, but ultimately the decision depends on the coach himself."
Portuguese media recently reported that Jesus might take over as Portugal's national team coach, succeeding the Spaniard Roberto Martínez after the 2026 World Cup. Upon returning to Portugal, Jesus declined to engage with these rumors, telling the press, "Who can say no to the national team? I have previously declined one of the best teams in the world, and I cannot say no to another."
He added, "I am not considering this possibility now. The World Cup is approaching, Portugal needs calm, the coach needs calm, and I do not want to get involved in such chaos."
Jorge Jesus, aged 71, began coaching Al-Nassr at the start of last season. Under his leadership, the team won the Saudi league title and reached the final of the AFC Champions League 2, where they ultimately lost the championship.
