Julian Álvarez Requests Atlético Exit Amid Barcelona and Real Madrid Transfer Battle
Atlético Madrid striker Julian Álvarez expressed his desire to leave the club, with Barcelona and Real Madrid competing to sign him.

Julian Álvarez, the Argentine forward for Atlético Madrid, stated that he does not see a future with the club and believes that the best solution for everyone is for him to leave.
Speaking to ESPN after Argentina's 2-0 victory over Austria on Monday in the World Cup group stage, Álvarez said, "I think this is not the right time to talk about my future, but I also do not want to hide it."
He added, "I try to be an honest person. I have spoken with the people I need to talk to at Atlético. I believe the best thing for everyone is to move on. I want to achieve my dream."
Shortly after Álvarez's statements, images circulated on social media showing some Atlético fans burning his jersey.
Media reports indicate that both Real Madrid and Barcelona are competing to acquire the 26-year-old player.
Álvarez's contract with Atlético Madrid extends until 2030, with reports stating that his release clause is valued at 500 million euros (571 million dollars).
Spanish newspaper AS quoted an anonymous Atlético representative as saying, "There is no amount Barcelona can pay to buy Julian; he will not move to Barcelona. Either they pay the release clause or nothing."
Reports also mention that Atlético rejected a 150 million euro offer from Real Madrid.
Álvarez has been with Atlético Madrid since 2024 and notably impressed last season in the UEFA Champions League by scoring 10 goals and providing four assists.
