Como centre-back Jacobo Ramón has become a primary target for Manchester United as they plan their defensive restructuring. The 21-year-old defender’s rapid development under Cesc Fàbregas in Serie A has positioned him as one of Italy’s most promising young players, drawing attention from multiple top English clubs.

United’s Persistent Pursuit

Reports indicate that Manchester United have shown the strongest interest among Premier League sides in securing Ramón’s services. While Chelsea and Liverpool also monitor his progress, United remain the most active English suitors according to AS. Despite this attention, Ramón is currently focused on his duties at Como and is not expected to transfer during the January window. Any serious move is anticipated to materialize next summer.

The situation is complicated by Real Madrid’s retained rights. Los Blancos kept 50 per cent ownership when selling Ramón to Como and possess a buy-back clause estimated at around €10million. Madrid remains impressed by his advancement and may exercise this option before determining if he fits into their first-team plans. This financial mechanism gives the Spanish giants a distinct advantage over other interested parties.

Ramón’s Profile and Impact

Fàbregas has praised Ramón as “a young player with a great future,” highlighting his potential. Standing at 1.96m, the Spaniard combines physical presence with comfort in building attacks from the back. His offensive contributions include three goals and two assists for Como this season. These attributes align with United’s strategy to build a younger, technically secure defence.

United have witnessed Ramón’s quality directly. He scored during Como’s 4-1 Champions League victory against them in October, a performance that reportedly intensified their interest. As they assess defensive additions for 2027, United continue to increase their monitoring of the player. However, control of the negotiation lies largely with Real Madrid due to the inexpensive buy-back clause, even as Ramón attracts interest from several major clubs.
