Manchester City Prioritize Elliot Anderson Over Enzo Fernandez for Midfield
Manchester City has identified Elliot Anderson as their top midfield target, dismissing interest in Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez amid potential squad changes post-Guardiola.

Manchester City is focusing on Elliot Anderson as their leading midfield acquisition ahead of the upcoming transfer window, aiming to finalize the deal before the World Cup begins. This priority reflects the club's strategy to strengthen the midfield promptly and then shift attention to other squad needs.
Simon Bajkowski of Manchester Evening News detailed the club's approach: "The big one that will surprise nobody is Elliot Anderson. Not only is he City's No.1 priority but the club want it to be done before the World Cup - and that is fast approaching. It's not terminal if it doesn't get done by then, but City are striving to get it over the line so that they can move on to other areas that need addressing."
Midfield Transfer Targets and Departures
Although there has been speculation about Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez joining City, internal sources indicate he is not currently a target. The midfield area is expected to see significant movement, with key players such as Rodri, Nico Gonzalez, and Mateo Kovacic potentially leaving. Other midfielders like Sandro Tonali remain on the club's radar as alternatives.
Bajkowski commented on the situation: "There are other midfielders that are on shortlists such as Sandro Tonali, although the noise from inside the club this week is that Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez is not somebody of interest. Getting a second midfielder isn't essential but with doubts over the futures of Rodri, Nico Gonzalez and Mateo Kovacic, there are lots of pieces that could potentially be moving."
Defensive Players Reassess Their Positions
Following the managerial transition from Pep Guardiola, senior defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are reportedly considering their futures at the club. Dias, who has been a candidate for captaincy, has experienced limited playing time recently and witnessed the departure of close teammate Bernardo Silva. Gvardiol is currently recovering from a broken leg sustained in January after a demanding physical season.
The club intends to retain both defenders but remains open to offers if either player decides to leave. Bajkowski noted: "City want to keep both players, but as is the case with every player they will listen to offers if anybody wants to leave. It would take pretty hefty sums in the case of either defender wanting out though."
The Situation Surrounding Savinho
Savinho's future at City is under consideration as the club balances his long-term potential against his immediate market value. While many within the club believe in his potential, the arrival of manager Maresca and sporting director Hugo Viana might influence a decision toward selling him. Bajkowski explained: "The criteria is the same as with any player really: weighing up how valuable he is and could be at City versus the money in selling and replacing him."
