Marcus Rashford Likely to Stay at Manchester United After Barcelona Option Expires

With Barcelona’s €30 million buy option on Marcus Rashford having expired, the England forward is set to return to Manchester United for preseason preparations. Rashford, currently focused on England’s World Cup opener against Croatia in the United States, faces uncertainty regarding his club future upon his return.

Although Rashford had shown interest in staying at Barcelona, and the club’s coach Hansi Flick reportedly wanted to retain him, the recent signing of Anthony Gordon has diminished Barcelona’s urgency to pursue Rashford. While the club has not completely ruled out signing him, Rashford is no longer considered a priority target.

Rashford’s Preference to Remain at Manchester United

According to The Athletic, Rashford favors staying at Manchester United over transferring to other Premier League teams. His current contract includes a £40 million release clause, which excludes Liverpool and Manchester City from activating it. Despite interest from other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Rashford has two years remaining on his United contract and is reportedly inclined to stay at the club rather than move elsewhere this summer.

Manchester United’s Position on Rashford’s Return

Reports from MEN indicate that Manchester United’s manager Michael Carrick initially wanted to reintegrate Rashford into the squad. However, after discussions with the club’s leadership, there are no plans to bring him back. The club appears to be seeking a permanent transfer for Rashford, whether that be to Barcelona or another destination.
