US Attorney General Todd Blanche announced today, Friday, the resignation of Jason Redding Kinnon, who, as the senior federal prosecutor in Miami, had overseen previous criminal investigations against US President Donald Trump, according to Reuters.

As the District Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Kinnon was at the center of Trump's attempts to exploit the Department of Justice to retaliate against his political opponents. His office was tasked with examining criminal investigations related to Trump's handling of classified documents after leaving office in 2021 and campaign contacts with Russia during the 2016 election, among other cases. These efforts have not yielded tangible results so far.

The reason for Kinnon's resignation was not immediately clear. In a statement posted on X, Kinnon said his resignation takes effect starting this Friday, expressing pride in serving in this position.

His office also brought criminal charges against former President Raul Castro in a major escalation of the pressure campaign launched by the Trump administration against Cuba.
