A stunning second-half fightback, orchestrated by Lionel Messi, saw Inter Miami erase a two-goal deficit and defeat FC Cincinnati 5-3 in Major League Soccer action. The Argentine superstar delivered two goals and two assists, showcasing his form just weeks before the 2026 World Cup.
The scoring opened in the 24th minute when Messi capitalized on a defensive error from Matt Miazga. Cincinnati leveled before halftime through a Kevin Denkey penalty. The home side then took the lead early in the second half, with Pavel Bucha finding the net. Messi responded swiftly in the 55th minute, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike after a precise pass from compatriot Rodrigo De Paul to make it 2-2.
Cincinnati regained the advantage through Evander, but Inter Miami refused to buckle. Messi turned provider in the 79th minute, setting up fellow Argentine Mateo Silvetti for the equalizer. German Berterame then put Miami ahead for the first time, before Messi sealed the victory with a fifth goal, his shot deflecting off the post and the goalkeeper before crossing the line.
The win lifts Inter Miami to second place in the Eastern Conference standings with 25 points. Messi’s personal tally now stands at 11 goals in 12 MLS appearances this season.
