Manuel Neuer's comeback has strengthened Germany's squad morale ahead of the World Cup, with teammates highlighting his impact on opponents and team dynamics.

Manuel Neuer’s comeback as Germany’s primary goalkeeper has elevated the national team’s confidence at their Herzogenaurach training camp ahead of the World Cup in North America. The Bayern Munich veteran, returning after nearly two years away, is anticipated to resume his starting position. His presence is seen by teammates as a significant asset for Germany.
Neuer recently completed a solo training session that included light running and strength exercises while managing a minor calf problem. The German squad expects his return to full action soon as coach Julian Nagelsmann finalizes tournament preparations.
Bayern Munich defender Jonathan Tah noted that opposing attackers tend to be more cautious when facing Neuer, whose reputation commands respect at the highest level. "You can just tell that attackers have to be especially focused when finishing," Tah said, according to Sky.
Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck praised Neuer even more emphatically, calling him "probably the best goalkeeper of all time."
Neuer’s return has settled a long-standing debate over Germany’s goalkeeper spot, which had been a topic of discussion in German football for several months. Despite Oliver Baumann’s strong performances, Nagelsmann has now established a clear pecking order for the upcoming World Cup.
Within the team, the situation reportedly caused little tension. Tah explained that Neuer approached the matter with professionalism and did not make his return a major issue. "He didn't say anything about it at all - and then it was just the way it was," Tah revealed.
Germany continues to monitor Neuer’s fitness carefully following his calf issue, but the expectation is that he will soon be back in the starting lineup. His return is considered a significant boost for a team aiming to regain momentum ahead of the tournament.
Nagelsmann faces the task of ensuring a smooth transition back to Neuer, especially after Baumann’s positive performances during qualification. With the goalkeeper hierarchy now clear, Germany can fully concentrate on their World Cup preparations. They are drawn in Group E alongside Curacao, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador.
