A surprising clause in Riyad Mahrez's contract allows him to leave Al-Ahli for $15 million during a specific window in June 2026.

A specific financial penalty could unlock an early departure for Algerian star Riyad Mahrez from Saudi club Al-Ahli during the upcoming summer transfer window. Reports have revealed a clause in his contract that sets a fixed price for a mutual termination, but only within a narrow timeframe.
Mahrez's current deal with Al-Ahli runs until the end of next season. He signed a four-year contract when he joined the club, known as "Al-Raqi," in the summer of 2023, arriving from Manchester City. Since then, he has been considered one of the team's standout players.
The Saudi newspaper *Al-Yaum* reported that the contract includes a specific provision. Between June 1 and June 30, 2026, either party can terminate the agreement by paying a fee of $15 million. If a departure is sought before or after that one-month window, the party breaking the contract would be liable for the remaining value of the deal, which amounts to $40 million.
This news arrives amid persistent speculation linking the Algerian international with a move away from Al-Ahli. Several clubs have been reported as interested in securing his services, with Turkish side Fenerbahçe mentioned as a leading candidate.
Over the past three seasons, Mahrez has been a key figure for Al-Ahli. He has played a significant role in the team's successes, which include winning the AFC Champions League Elite title twice and the Saudi Super Cup.
