Three warning signs around Vinicius and Perez
Vinicius Junior’s contract talks with Real Madrid remain unresolved, and his promise not to leave for free has not eased concerns inside the club.

Vinicius Junior’s future is still a source of major debate inside Real Madrid, with his contract running until the summer of 2027 and renewal talks yet to produce an agreement, despite the strong confidence shown in him by club president Florentino Perez.
The Brazilian forward has already told the Real Madrid president that he will not leave for free when his deal ends, a remark that points to his wish to settle the renewal file before the end of next season. But three signs are said to be causing concern in the club’s corridors and could leave Perez facing a difficult scenario with the player.
Vinicius Junior has rejected more than one offer to extend his contract with Real Madrid, despite repeated attempts by the club’s management. He has also asked for a salary on the level of Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, a demand that has helped stall the negotiations for a long time, together with his agent.
The forward is attracting strong interest from several clubs, led by teams from the Saudi Pro League, as well as major English sides looking to sign him. If he decides to leave for free after his contract ends, Europe’s biggest clubs will be waiting, giving him considerable leverage in talks with Real Madrid.
There is no guarantee that he will follow through on his promise. Mbappe previously told Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he would not leave for free, but he did move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 after his contract expired.
The same scenario could be repeated with Vinicius, as there are no guarantees forcing the player to keep his promise to Florentino Perez if he ultimately decides to try a new experience away from Santiago Bernabeu.
