Unai Emery Rejects Title of Europa League King
Unai Emery, Aston Villa's coach and the most decorated manager in Europa League history with four titles, insists he does not see himself as the "king" of the competition ahead of the final against Freiburg.

Unai Emery holds the record for the most Europa League titles won by a manager, with four victories to his name.
Despite this achievement, Emery, who currently manages Aston Villa, stated that he does not consider himself the "king of the Europa League."
His four triumphs include three consecutive wins with Sevilla in 2014, 2015, and 2016, followed by a title with Villarreal in 2021.
Emery is preparing to lead Aston Villa in another Europa League final, facing Freiburg on Wednesday at the Beşiktaş Stadium in Turkey.
Aston Villa aims to secure its first major European trophy since 1982, the year they won both the European Cup and the European Super Cup.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Emery reflected on the team's journey: "We reached the semi-finals, then the quarter-finals, and now the final. We have experience and have worked hard to get here. This is a new chapter and a new challenge. We have great confidence, but we respect our opponents."
He emphasized the importance of focus, saying, "The mentality in every match must be on the present and the task ahead. Winning in football is very difficult. I am happy with everything we have done, but I do not take anything for granted."
The Spanish coach added, "Respecting the rivals is always necessary, and showing the right mentality is crucial. If we play at our best, we will be close to winning; if not, we won’t."
Reflecting on the team’s progress this season, Emery said, "We stayed calm at the start of the season. The players’ response was amazing. Of course, as a coaching staff, we had to push them further, but the players fully committed. They were mature, responsible, and professional, handling the situation in the best way. Now, after competing in the Europa League, we have qualified for the Champions League. We achieved this together."
Regarding his dominance in the Europa League, Emery remarked, "I am not the king of this competition. It is a new opportunity. I hope this is just the beginning of a new era for Aston Villa."
