Vlahovic's Salary Dispute Spurs Juventus Exit on Free Transfer
Juventus is set to lose striker Dusan Vlahovic on a free transfer following failed contract talks over salary comparisons with Jonathan David.

Dusan Vlahovic is poised to depart Juventus Turin without a transfer fee after contract negotiations collapsed amid a contentious salary dispute. The Serbian striker reportedly angered Juventus executives by questioning why he should earn the same as his Canadian strike partner Jonathan David.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported that the disagreement originated from Vlahovic’s provocative question during talks: "Why should I earn as much as David?" This sparked a heated exchange at the negotiating table, leading to a breakdown in discussions.
Currently in the final year of his contract, the 26-year-old striker earned approximately €12 million in Turin, including bonuses. Juventus proposed a new contract aligned with their cost-cutting measures, offering six million euros plus bonuses—matching the package intended for David. Vlahovic, however, insisted on a net salary of eight million euros plus incentives.
The club has implemented a salary cap of seven million euros per season, a figure only reached by Kenan Yildiz so far. Juventus’s director Giorgio Chiellini confirmed the failure of talks and indicated that no Serie A club can meet Vlahovic’s wage demands, suggesting the player will move abroad.
SSC Napoli has engaged in negotiations with Vlahovic’s representatives, but financial constraints limit their ability to compete. According to Tuttosport, Napoli’s chances in a bidding war are slim, especially against wealthier clubs.
Atlético Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea FC are reportedly in stronger financial positions to acquire Vlahovic. Chelsea, in particular, is hopeful of signing the left-footed forward on a free transfer.
Since joining Juventus in winter 2022 for around €85 million from Fiorentina, Vlahovic has scored 68 goals in 168 appearances. While respectable, this tally falls short of the club’s high expectations.
What Are Bayern Munich’s Plans for Vlahovic?
Bayern Munich has been linked to Vlahovic for some time, especially after Nicolas Jackson’s departure, as the club seeks additional forward options alongside Harry Kane. Media reports suggested talks occurred in May, positioning Bayern as a strong contender, though speculation has since diminished.
Other European clubs such as FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Newcastle United, and Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential destinations for the Serbian striker.
Dusan Vlahovic’s Juventus Performance Statistics
During his tenure at Juventus, Vlahovic made 168 appearances, scoring 68 goals and providing 16 assists. He received 16 yellow cards and one red card in this period.
