Following the death of inmate Benjamin Zaaitar at Roumieh prison, fellow prisoners revealed over 30 inmates suffering from severe health issues, citing medical neglect and delayed treatment.

The day after the death of an inmate at Roumieh prison, prisoners in Building "D" revealed a list of more than 30 inmates suffering from diseases and health problems requiring treatment, examinations, or surgical interventions, warning of the deterioration of some conditions amid what they described as medical negligence and delayed hospitalization.
These statements come following the death of prisoner Benjamin Zaaitar yesterday, Wednesday, at a time when warnings are escalating about the deteriorating health situation inside the prison, especially among the elderly and those with chronic diseases, particularly with the hunger strike carried out by a section of prisoners protesting the freezing of the general amnesty law.
The list includes cases related to heart, kidney, liver, diabetes, and respiratory diseases, along with prisoners who, according to incoming information, need operations and medical interventions for the back, pelvis, limbs, hernia, and middle ear, while some cases were described as urgent or critical.
The prisoners demanded an urgent medical examination, securing necessary medications and tests, and transferring those whose conditions require it to hospitals, warning of the worsening of patients' conditions with the continued delay in treatment.
